If you haven't had a chance to check out the assignments section of the blog I have updated with some future dates. Also, check out the links. There is a CMP link for extra practice in Prime Time and you can also access Math Facts in a Flash from home and your scores will count as they do at school (it does require a download of some software).
Even if you or your child thinks their homework is complete 30 minutes of reading and 30 minutes of math practice or a math activity or game is encouraged. Just a reminder EVERY student must complete the first four levels of Math Masters by the end of the first quarter (9 weeks) October 14, 2011. Students have 5 minutes to complete 100 problems of single digit addition -->subtraction-->multiplication-->division.
Taos Middle School Open House is tomorrow Wednesday September 7, 2011. You are welcome to come and tour around. The HANDS Lab will be closed and I will not attend the Open House. You may make an appointment to meet with me if you need anything. I try to keep an open door policy for parents to drop in after 1:00pm, however I am required to attend meetings and will not always be in the classroom in the afternoons, so please check in the office if you need to find me. I am usually at the school until 4:00pm, but I do occasionally leave for appointments and offsite meetings (the teacher day is also, 7:45am-2:45pm).
I will be scheduling our first HANDS Family night/potluck for after I return from welcoming my nephew to the world. I'll keep you all posted. Ms. Monica Archuleta will be covering the class in my absence.
Please also welcome Alex Norton to HANDS. She is in her second semester of student teaching and will be in the class two days a week.
Next Friday is Homecoming. Students will be dismissed early for the homecoming activities. The time is not posted on the calendar.

About Me
- HANDS
- Taos, New Mexico, United States
- My name is Hillary McPartlon. I am the teacher of the HANDS Program. H.A.N.D.S (Helping Academic Needs of Diverse Students) is a pilot program at Taos Middle School for 6th graders. It is designed for students who seek a challenging environment with a hands-on approach. Through multi-disciplinary learning, students will learn core academics, real-world challenges, and leadership skills. The HANDS Lab is for learners of all levels and backgrounds. The ultimate goal is to treat each student as an individual learner as part of a cooperative team.
