What's a Literature Circle Role (Lit Role)?

Literature Circles are basically the school version of a book club.  In an informal book club people sit around and chat about the book.  In the school version we give the students Lit Roles to guide them through the chapters.  One reason for this is to make sure they are gaining reading comprehension skills.  Another reason is to make sure they are reading the book.  Each week as we read through The Samurai's Tale by Erik Christian Haugaard students will be responsible for the roles described below.  Family members if you want to read along with us I am happy to lend you a copy of the book!

Vocabulary Enhancer:
1. Finds words that are interesting or difficult from each chapter.
2. Makes a vocabulary word map for each word

3. Shares the words with the group

Literary Luminary:
1. Finds a passage in the book they would like to share (a good part or good language)
2. Writes the passage word for word (copies exactly) on a piece of paper
3. Writes a reaction to the passage below it on the same paper.

Travel Tracer:
1. Follows the travels of the character(s) throughout the chapters using pictures

Discussion Director:
1. Create 3 Q.A.R.s Question-Answer-Relationships
